Artisans-
Satyam Kumar Lal
Sohrai is a harvest festival of the Indian states of Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and West Bengal. It also called cattle festival. It is celebrated after harvest and coincide with festival of Diwali. It is celebrated by Prajapati, Kurmi, Santal, Munda and Oraons among others
Warli painting is a style of tribal art mostly created by
the tribal people from the North Sahyadri Range in Maharashtra, India. This
range encompasses cities such as Dahanu, Talasari, Jawhar, Palghar, Mokhada,
Vikramgad of Palghar district.
One of the great artists is Satyam Kumar Lal who has passed
from CUJ (Central University of Jharkhand) and he is exploring his artwork
through social media. He shared few experiencing life with us during the
Interview. He is working with Warli art, Sohrai art, pencil sketching and
working since 3 to 4 years since he joined with Shilpkaari and started Sohrai
and Warli art.
Presently he is also working on sketching of face and other
sketch sketching using pencil and Sohrai and Warli painting normally with
acrylic paint on cardboard papers, wood, Mat, Jute, Sac, Suppa etc. He is
working at the main canvas artist in Shilpkaari. Since childhood cartooning and
sketching was his primary hobbies and professionally now he started his art and
painting after joining Shilpkaari 3 to 4 years back. As soon as Shilpkaari
started, his professional career also started undoubtedly since his first
painting order was through shilpkaari.
Regarding Pandemic strike of Covid-19 has affected much more in my career life. Due to lockdown I was stuck in Lucknow and there was lack of material due to which I was unable to complete the art. And second thing is that I totally lost the connection with different place, different artists through which I could get an experience. Artwork order also hampered. I would expect that as soon as lockdown ends, I will be back in Ranchi , my career life would be back to normal as before and I would expect more experience life
In 2018, Lok Manthan was organised in Ranchi and his artwork
painting where order from Shilpkaari which were used to decorate the main hall
which is at main exhibition area. His painting was also ordered for stall for
selling. During Interview he also stated that he also attended other
exhibitions like at ISM(Dhanbad),Khadi Day(CUJ), TISS(Mumbai).
From the view of my business I want to thank Shilpkaari who
gave the opportunities to construct the career in this artwork on traditions of
India. Shilpkaari actually works for artisans to develop better connections
with customer and I have experienced from them. I would feel proud that I am
connected to this Startup.
